If I am traveling alone can I get a private room?
Tour prices are based on double room occupancy. A single supplement is required for single room occupancy. Please note that in Italy single rooms are frequently smaller than double rooms. Groups of three can book triple rooms and avoid the single supplement.

How do I pay for my tour?
You can pay by credit card, personal check, or bank transfer. Checks should be made out to Charnes Tours and mailed to:

What kind of shape do I need to be in for my trip?
Our trips are not athletic events. To comfortably complete our hiking tours you should be able to hike over hilly terrain for three hours. On the bike trips we average 15 miles per day. Most people are able to complete the daily bicycle rides in 2 to 3 hours. If you want to hike or ride more extra miles are always available.

NOTE:  Our Self-Guided Tuscany Challenge Bike Tour is different from our other bike tours. It is a very challenging tour with substantial hill climbs and is recommended for experienced cyclists only.

Can I do more or less distance if I want?
You can hike or ride more on any of our tours, both guided and self-guided. We can provide route notes for additional miles on all trips. Hiking or riding less is possible on all of our guided tours. You just get in the van. Reducing the miles on self-guided tours is more complicated because there isn’t a van. On rainy days or in emergency situations you can call us and we can make arrangements for you to get a ride. We provide a cell phone on self-guided tours.

How large are your groups?
Our guided tour groups are rarely larger than 10 guests. Our self-guided tours are usually 2 guests. We run self-guided tours every week, but with different itineraries the dates rarely overlap.

How do I get to the first hotel?
The starting point for our tours varies from trip to trip. Some trips start with a Florence pick-up while others begin at the first hotel (see individual trip pages for starting point details). For trips that begin at the first hotel we provide detailed travel instructions.

How do I get back to a larger city when the trip is over?
We do not provide transportation on the last day of the tour. You will need to take public or private transportation to a larger city at the end of your trip. We will be happy to help you with train and bus schedules. If you prefer private transport we can arrange a private car or taxi.

Do I have to carry my own luggage?
On our guided tours your luggage will be in the support van during the day. When you arrive at the hotel your luggage will arrive with you. On self-guided tours your luggage will be delivered to your next hotel before you arrive. On all tours we request that you carry your own luggage from the lobby to your room. We also ask you to bring your luggage down to the lobby on departure days. If your luggage is particularly heavy you can ask the hotel staff for assistance.

Why is there no rental fee for the bicycles?
The rental fee is included in the trip price. Charnes Tours offers trips with one price and no extra charges.

Can I bring my own bicycle?
Guests can certainly bring their own bicycles. Please note that airlines charge extra for bicycles.
