Self-Guided Tuscany Hiking Wineries and Castles
Montefioralle Castle, Greve
The castle of Montefioralle was an important stronghold in the wars between Florence and Siena. It had two sets of walls and four gates, some of which survive today. During the middle ages it was one of the largest military fortifications of the area.
Volpaia Winery and Castle, Volpaia
Volpaia is a small village dominated by a 10th century castle. Today the castle houses a winery producing Chianti Classico. The winery is fully devoted to organic farming and also makes honey, wine vinegars, infused vinegars and extra virgin olive oil.
